A different kind of Virus

I recall a conversation I witnessed once inside one of the many three letter agencies.

I was a fly on the wall . People more important than me discussed whether a certain thing should be built.

The thing they were thinking of creating was not something they desired. They didn’t want it. Nobody wanted it.

It was something they were terrified of. So they decided to build it anyway.

“We have to do it and we have to do it now,” they said, “because if we don’t, somebody, someday will.”

In that moment I saw both extremes of the rawest human powers: our imagination and our fear. These powers are what catalyze us and propel us to incredible heights, but also what jeopardize the very future of our species.2134141125332415333124222344153321152412445212

Malicious code written into DNA infects the computer that reads it

In a mind-boggling world first, a team of biologists and security researchers have successfully infected a computer with a malicious program coded into a strand of DNA. It sounds like science fiction, but I assure you it’s quite real – although you probably don’t have to worry about this particular threat vector any time soon.
